“Baby, I’m Jealous” is the first collaboration between singers Bebe Reha and Doja Cat who features on the song. Released in October 2020, the pop song was written by Bleta Rexha, Justin Tranter, Jussi Karvinen, Jason Gill, Pablo Bowman and Amala Dlamani (Doja Cat), with Gill and Jussifer producing the track.
“Baby, I’m Jealous” shows listeners that Bebe has insecurities about her boyfriend liking other women’s pictures on Instagram, alluding to this in the lines: “Baby, I’m jealous / of the pictures that you like / women’s pictures that you like / of the girls with lighter eyes” In an interview with Radio Disney, Bebe revealed the song’s inspiration and the true story behind the track:
“The inspiration was based on a real story. I got caught up on Instagram and I was dating this one guy and I thought he was doing some shady stuff on the Internet and I kind of got jeaulous of the girls that he liked the pictures of and I got really upset and I went to the studio and my collabotor Justin Tranter was there and I was like “Justin this is what’s going on” and I’m just really upset. He was like “First of all, being jealous is okay, let’s write a song about it so that we make it empowering for people and for girls all over” […] So we wrote the song and sent it over to Doja Cat and spoke to her […] and she killed it. […] It’s been fun and effortless from the start.”
The music video was released on Bebe Rexha’s YouTube channel on the 9th October 2020, and was directed by Hannah Lux Davis, and includes features from social media celebrities, such as Nikita Dragun, Charli D’Amelio and Avani Gregg. Viewers are taken back and forth through time while Bebe shows jealous women’s struggles with their men in various time periods, from the 1800’s to BC, as well as Doja Cat making an appearance in the “dawn of creation” scene. As of the end of November, the video has 36.5 million views and 1.2 million likes.
