“Hello” is about Adele reconnecting with herself. When asked if “Hello” is an apology to an ex Adele replied:”Oh, god no. That’s over and done with, thank f–k. That’s been over and done with for f–king years, No, it’s not about anyone specifically. It’s about friends, ex-boyfriends, it’s about myself, it’s about my family. It’s also about my fans as well. I feel like everyone thinks I’m so far away and I’m not. Everyone thinks I live in f–king America, I don’t. The song is about hurting someone’s feelings but it’s also about trying to stay in touch with myself, which sometimes can be a little bit hard to do. It’s about a yearning for the other side of me. When I’m away, I really, really miss my life at home. The way that I feel when I’m not in England, is desperation. I can’t breathe anywhere else.”

In another interview with Ryan Seacrest, Adele said:”I have a little curiosity about my past now that I’m a grown up, We’re not kids anymore and stuff like that. It’s kind of a hello to all my old friends, all the relationships I’ve had, all my old teachers, my little me when I was 7 or 8, and also a bit of a hello to all my fans because I’ve been gone for so long.”

It only took 24 hours for Adele to start breaking records, with her new video achieving a record 27.7 million views in just 24 hours and surpassing Taylor swift’s “Bad Blood” video which held a record of 20.1 million views.  The hit is also the first song to achieve over a million digital sales in 1 week.

“Hello” peaked at number 1 in 37 countries around the world, and in the UK it became Adele’s second number one hit after “Someone Like You.” It was also certified platinum in Australia, Italy, New Zealand and the UK. In Canada “Hello” outsold Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” with sales over 140 thousand copies and peaked at number 2 on the Canadian Hot 100 Charts.
