STORY OF SONG

It’s about a guy’s frustration when he’s out and having a hard time to pick up girls. Brandon Flowers sings that he doesn’t know the girl, he’s in a club and notices her, but he’s probably too shy to go talk to her. But after seventeen teen tracks, he must’ve finally found out her name, and then somebody told him a rumor that ruined his night, he sings (Well somebody told me, You had a boyfriend, Who looked like a girlfriend, That I had in February of last year). So not only she’s taken, but could be a lesbian too! Also, if we’re taking the song literally, then his ex also turned out to be lesbian! After that he tries to move on, but its taking its toll on him. In an interview published by Entertainment Weekly in 2013, lead singer Brandon Flowers explained the inspiration behind the song, he said: “We were going out to clubs a lot at the time. I think it speaks to a young man’s frustration, the difficulty of picking up girls. That’s probably where it stems from. I was just able to run with it, and the band supplied a wonderful backing track. It’s one of Mark (Stoermer)’s greatest moments on the bass, too, It’s a really great collaboration.”
