Story of Song The stories behind the hits Novellic

It’s a ballad about aging and nostalgia. A woman who used to be a ‘fluorescent adolescent’, but is now hitting her forties and going through menopause. She is remembering her days as a younger, more sexually attractive girl when she used to have sex whenever she went out in her fishnets, but now she only has sex in her nightdress (with herself). The woman is remembering all her one night stands and how boys used to fall at her feet, she also wishes she was still like that, and was a bit naughty too. She sings about how she recently had sex with a man, maybe a male prostitute and it’s the best she’s had in ages. The woman remembers being younger, the best of her life is gone. Alex Turner’s ex-girlfriend and co-writer Johanna Bennett is co-credited in the writing of this song, When Turner and Bennet were on holiday in the Mediterranean, they were reminiscing about characters they knew at school. In an interview with The Times Magazine, Turner said: “It started off as a joke. Then it were like, ‘Here’s another verse.” We were having a laugh. Some of the lines were hers. I couldn’t have not credited her. It’s just right, really.”
