Story of Song

This cover version of Biffy Clyro’s ‘Many of Horror’ was originally written by Clyro’s Simon Neil about his wife and family. Cardle’s cover version was renamed ‘When We Collide’; he first released it after winning The X Factor UK 2010. In an interview, Matt Cardle explained why he chose to cover the song: “ I know there are some Biffy fans who are like, ‘What have you done to that song?’ But it’s a great song – I hope I’ve done it justice.”

In Ireland, the song became fourth best selling song in the history of the Irish charts. ‘When We Collide’ also topped the charts in the UK and Scotland. The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) certified it Platinum for sales over 600.000 copies. However, the song did not achieve international success.
