STORY OF SONG

“pete davidson” is the fourteenth track from Ariana Grande’s latest album “Sweetener”. In light of recent news of their breakup, this track has becomingly increasingly more popular to not only fans of the two celebrities, but in the music review world.

“I thought you into my life (whoa), look at my mind (yuh)
No better place or a time, (look) how they align
Universe must have my back, fell from the sky into my lap
And I know you know that you’re my soulmate and all that
I’m like ooh, ooh, my whole life got me ready for you, ooh, ooh”

The only verse in the song discusses how right Grande feels her meeting Pete Davidson was to her, how it was the only place or the only time. She feels as if she’s incredibly lucky, and that the universe is in her favour – everything is aligned for her. From the first time Davidson met Grande, he openly expressed that she was his “soulmate”. Grande feels like her whole life was preparing her to meet Davidson. The title of the track wasn’t always clear to Grande, she told PAPER magazine. “I didn’t know what else to call it. I played it for Tyler, the Creator and he was like ‘I guess that title makes sense because if I wrote a song about how much I loved waffles and syrup I’d call it ‘Waffles and Syrup'”. The track ends with Grande singing about how Davidson has made her happy and repeats until the track ends. The upbeat tune makes this a happy and kind modern love ballad.
